I get really upset when people take the problem of Betty Draper (the character)’s iciness and turn it into something about January Jones (the actor)’s acting ability. I think she shows pretty remarkable restraint in situations that might lead less talented actresses to overact.

Meanwhile, Jon Hamm consistently receives praise for being stoic and emotionless. I doubt anyone has ever attacked him for his supposed lack of range.

Yes, what she said ^ exactly. The sexism displayed by the audience of this show baffles me, especially when I hear women call her a “slut” or a “cunt” or a “whore.” Her character is meant to be empty and cold, and I think January Jones does a fine job with such a difficult person. Jon Hamm’s acting is always empty and cold as well, but he’s held on some master pedestal because he’s attractive and a man. It’s really disheartening to come on Tumblr week after week and see anti-Betty or anti-January this and that, but 500 Give Jon Hamm an Emmy or Let Don Draper Steal His Kids Back shit. Fuck that mentality, it’s gross.

i think January Jones does an amazing job at making you just downright loathe Betty Draper, but still manages to sneak layers into this cold, angry character. Jones’ SNL appearance was less than stellar which i think a lot of her “can’t act” hate stems from. That being said, this is pretty funny. It’s compliment’s the “Don Draper says ‘What?’” video nicely.
